THE QUEST: It's time...

Three years, 8 months and 1 day after I got married... and 8 months 10 days after I had Andrea... I think it's time...

... to go on another diet.

YES!!! I AM GOING ON A DIET!

...

I told you, I am!!

First Nudge: May 2010, during annual physical exam.
BP = 130/80. Uh... Hmmm... ok... my usual blood pressure is only 90/70 so 130/80 is high for me. I took my blood pressure a few weeks ago and it's still 130/80.

2nd Nudge: 2 weeks ago... mom gave me a size 3? (let's keep some things secret, shall we?) pair of jeans. It fit me!! Waaaaahhh!! *faints*

3rd Nudge: Last night, stepping on the weighing scale. Arrrrggghh!! I weigh the same as I did last December. I am not losing weight!!! (Not that I'm doing anything to lose it... but I was hoping...)

*sigh*

It's been a while since I went on a diet (or exercised regularly for that matter). I can pinpoint the exact date actually... the day after I got married. I figured that since I am married, I might get pregnant anytime and will get fat anyway so I deserve a diet holiday. That diet holiday lasted 3 years. And now it's time for retribution.

50 Years of Barbie

I was at the mall last night with my husband, looking for again yet another toy for Andrea, when I saw this:

I had both when I was a kid!

I stared at the dolls for a long time reminiscing. I remember that the peaches and cream dress was the nicest dress I had for my dolls. The rocker doll was given to me by my Aunt Vivian and I never really appreciated that doll... the heavy eyeshadow scared me. And her super curly hair was difficult to comb and style. But I loved her clothes. I don't have my dolls anymore. We disposed of most of our old toys when my family sold our home in the province and moved back to the city.

I was contemplating buying both for Andrea so she can play with them when she's a little older. But the price tag put me off:

Wow... Barbie dolls weren't that expensive back then were they? Makes me think that maybe I should have taken better care of them and preserved them but who are we kidding right? I was about 6 or 7 when I had these. And I was allowed to play with them.

I still think it would be great if Andrea can have something similar to what I had before (I wonder if Barbie is still something little girls will like 5 years from now...).

Motherhood 101: Proud Parent

I was reading the latest issue of Reader's Digest last night and in the "Dear Aunty" section a letter sender who calls herself "Proud Parent" was asking for advice regarding a friend who always tries to top her stories about her children. Aunty's advice was to find a less competitive friend to share her stories with.

I think most parents have this tendency. For a while, I was fighting this same tendency because I remember how it used to annoy me when I hear 2 parents engage in a "who-has-the-best-kid" conversation. Face it, every parent is biased and we think that our children are better than other people's kids. But your child will never be the best in the eyes of another parent no matter how great your story (I think any parent who thinks that another child is better than his/hers needs therapy). So I don't see the point in these bragging sessions. For me, it's enough that I know how great Andrea is. I don't have to impose her on other people to feed my ego. When someone tells a story about their child, is it really so hard to just listen and be happy for them?
